Moringue Clay Water Bottle
The narrow-mouthed vessel that helped get through the hot days.
Moringue Clay Water Bottle
Cool water always close at hand
In Alentejo, everyone knew that clay helped to face the hot days, even if few knew why. But Xico Tarefa knew. He learned the secrets of pottery and its raw material from his masters very early on.
When the clay keeps the right porosity, a small amount of water passes through the walls of the piece and evaporates on the surface, helping to cool the water that stays inside.
That is how the moringue accompanied the hot days of Alentejo, bringing a little of its coolness.
At Olaria XT, this traditional shape is reborn in the hands of Xico Tarefa, who has worked clay since the age of 13. Zeza adds an unexpected touch: a painted face that turns the moringue into an object with personality, between the memory of other times and the creative expression of the one who decorates it.
A piece that revives the memory of everyday life in Alentejo and gives it a new expression, without losing sight of its function.

Eyes, nose and mouth. And the memory of cool water.
