Warm wool for cold winters, from cold winters
We feel it in the crisp, icy air we breathe.
At 2,000 meters above sea level, the village of Manteigas (Beira Alta, Portugal) is nestled in the Serra da Estrela mountains, populated by shepherds and textile artisans since the 12th century.
We went to meet a small family business that combines old and new techniques in a rare sustainable production process that is as warm and cozy as their 100% wool blankets.
Beige, white, or brown, the Bordaleira sheep lend high-quality raw wool and inspire rustic and contemporary patterns for the Shepherd's Blanket (Manta Pastor). Born and raised here, they keep company and provide sustenance to the granite landscape. They take their walks with slow steps. Just like us, on our excursion from the boiling kettle to the couch, on a cold Sunday evening, right before we tuck ourselves under the blankets.
