Jewellery Box
A box for keeping treasures
There was a time when playing also meant inventing a whole house at doll scale. There were bedrooms, wardrobes, clothes to tidy away and little objects that mattered enormously. Today these games seem to have less room, but finding a piece like this one is enough to bring them back to life in memory.
With its drawers and compartments on top, this jewellery box seems to come straight from that childhood world. The red background, decorated with flowers hand-painted by artisan Zézinha, gives it colour and personality.
In Redondo, Zézinha carries on the tradition of Alentejo painted furniture, which she learned from her master four decades ago. In this piece too, the floral motifs and the care of the painting bring that art to an everyday object.
Today, instead of dolls' clothes, it can hold rings, earrings and other small treasures, with the same devotion. The kind that reminds us that sometimes the smallest things are the ones we keep most lovingly.

Once, dolls' clothes. Now, rings and earrings.

PINTAR O DIA‑A‑DIA DO ALENTEJO
A continuidade do ofício preocupa Zézinha.
