From her workshop in Leiria (Estremadura, Portugal), Andreia Pinho takes refuge from humankind to explore its most bizarre and grotesque side through wild clay.

Wild clay means she doesn't just buy her raw material or order it online. She harvests it by hand like a hidden gem in the seven corners of Portugal, venturing into secret spots we never dreamed existed.

Andreia chose wild clay for the plasticity of the pastes, its three-dimensional possibilities, and the desire to collect and make her own pigments. She is passionate about the process, like all experimentalists: malleability means freedom, a creative act with organic texture. It's wonderful to watch her sculpt.

Education and Studio Foundation

A master in Plastic Arts from ESAD.CR and CENCAL’s Ceramics Lab alumni, Andreia Pinho set her workshop in Caldas da Rainha, the Portuguese city of ceramics, in 2021. There, she took refuge from humankind in order to explore its most bizarre, grotesque side through wild clay.

Wild clay means that she doesn’t simply buy her raw material or order it online. She harvests it by hand like a hidden gem in the seven corners of Portugal, adventuring herself into secret spots we never dreamed existed.

Influences and Creative Universe

Andreia’s work emerges from a lifelong fascination with Portuguese folklore, Iberian mythology and cult movies. Drawing inspiration from Lusitanian gods, legendary creatures, David Lynch or Jodorowski, she reinvents deeply symbolic imagery as handcrafted emotion, made tangible by clay.
