Guimarães Embroidery is far from lost.
Eight Billion People in the World. Only eight of them are certified artisans in the art of Guimarães Embroidery.
Made from linen fabric, the Almond Sachet (Saco de Amêndoas) is one of the few pieces we found decorated with this historical technique of artisanal embroidery, vibrant due to its colours, texture, and unparalleled quality standard. It is an unusual work of art, hidden in plain sight.
The embroidery is a mix of rich 19th-century embroidery and even older popular embroidery, all originating from the city of Guimarães (Minho, Portugal). It allows only six colours (red, blue, beige, grey, white, and black) which must be stitched individually, reproducing stylized motifs.
