The plant that gives only once
Vanessa Melo, an architect with a PhD in urban planning, began in 2022 to collect banana plants from the backyards of friends and family, to extract, dry and work the fibre from the trunks. The experiment became a book and, in 2025, the Musaz brand: baskets, coasters and textile pieces made from what used to be thrown away, and workshops for those who want to learn.
