It wants to be seen and admired. It carries the right toughness to face cold and rain, but it travelled from the Serra da Estrela to the As Capuchinhas workshop to become a work of art - the one the hands of the four artisans have learned over time: the cutwork of burel.
In a bag made to go out and about, the contrast of colours is thermal: raw and dark brown. But it is the designs, the ornamentation, that elevate it. In the reliefs worked in the raw tone, we see geometric patterns that carry us back to the Arab legacy in Portuguese tilework.
This bag has its own identity. That of the artisans of the As Capuchinhas Cooperative, who in Campo Benfeito produce clothing in burel, linen and wool, using hand looms and traditional techniques. With contemporary, original design by Paula Caria.
