Two delicatessens that have been paired for centuries finally became one.
In Portugal, we show love through Traditional Foods.
That’s one of the things Deolinda learned from her mother Aurora, before learning her recipes for the delicatessens and her recipe for the business, based in Ponte de Lima (Minho, Portugal). She also inherited her strength and perseverance. As the years went by, Deolinda made Quinta dos Fumeiros her own and added a new tradition to the family and the region’s heritage: innovation. Isn’t that the only way of founding new traditions?
We took that first bite of Smoked Pork Neck in Senra Cheese (Cachaço de porco com queijo Senra), unsure.
And then.
You know when you taste something for the first time and it not only tastes good but also makes sense?
As a novelty, it is both unforeseen and inevitable. On the one hand, it took Aurora 90 years to witness the birth of this delicacy, even though the produce and the flavours were part of her lifelong memories. On the other, the smoked pork and this buttery cow cheese originate from the same pastures - legend has it that what grows together goes together.
Or, shall we say, belongs together. Perfectly, embededly together. Even if “embededly” is not a real word.
At the hands of Aurora's daughter Deolinda, two ancestral provisions finally became one.
Another bite, for sure.
