Early Connection to Textiles

Alice Aranha is the artistic name of Alice Albergaria Borges, the crochet jeweller who discovered her passion for textures as a child, learning to crochet at an early age.

Craft and Materials

Today, she specializes in textile handcrafting, using fibers like wool, silk, linen and cotton, dyed by herself with natural ingredients.

Style and Inspiration

Her work is refined and tactile, her signature pieces a repercussion of the botanical world in the form of thread.

Atelier and Community

Alice’s atelier in Caldas da Rainha hums with quiet purpose. She is resurrecting ancient techniques through contemporary vision, one thread at a time, and loves to share it with the community through her hands-on workshops.

ABOUT THE MATERIALS

The petals are dyed with cochineal and madder to obtain red, while the stems are dyed with woad and indigo for green. It uses natural fibres such as silk and cotton, worked with a silver hook.
