The oldest drink in the history of the world made in a unique context
The oldest drink in world history. The drink of the Gods. Sounds epic, doesn't it? Egyptian Pharaohs, Greek philosophers, Nordic Vikings, Roman Emperors - here is something they all had in common: however much they enjoyed mead, they never had the opportunity to taste this Traditional Mead (hidromel), produced in a singular distillery in Covilhã (Beira Baixa, Portugal).
So, what makes it different?, you might ask.
Well. It's that - it's not epic at all.
It's intimate.
The mountain heather honey is indigenous to the Serra da Estrela mountains, where the bees make it salty, acidic, and sweet, with an amber colour. We watch them work, whispering. Masters of their craft.
Then, the ancestral fermentation methods of this honey are indigenous to Licores Serrano, where Artur Aleixo and his team have been perfecting their spirits for 45 years.
Without wanting to judge ancient civilizations, this mead is perfect for silent drinking. It sounds intimate, doesn't it?
