Madeiran sheep are small, and every gram counts, especially when it comes to spinning, but they produce a long-fibre wool that is strong and robust.

Irina Andrusko is the one who works with this wool and knows it like no one else. She is a researcher, linguist and textile creator. Originally from Estonia and living in Madeira since 2011, it was on the island that she created a space for experimentation and practical research, centred on regional wool and on valuing local raw materials. Around her, she has brought together artisans, researchers and keepers of the knowledge that tradition still holds.

The Enfia o Barrete collective project was created in 2021 by Irina Andrusko herself and Luz Ornelas, for the research and appreciation of Madeiran wool and the preservation of the traditional ear cap. So that the tradition does not fall asleep.
