Jacky Cavallari was born in Paris. He studied art history at the Sorbonne Université and trained in marquetry at the legendary École Boulle. It was there that he discovered, in wood - an organic, living material - his essence. His sense of purpose.
How each wood reacts to cutting, and how it changes colour over time. What its grain has to say. In coming to understand wood, Jacky learned the art of inlay, of painting without paint, through the application of thin sheets of wood - veneers. Each one cut and combined to create contrasts of colour, texture and grain direction. All without a single nail.
Wood is Jacky Cavallari's colour palette. A painting made of matter and precision. A puzzle sculpted and fitted together by hand, layer by layer. With intention, and with time.
He lived ten years in Brazil. He drew inspiration from its flora and fauna, and his art also became a living memory of nature - of a rich, unmatched biodiversity. In the end, he chose Lisbon as the place to live and bring his art to life. In his workshop, Jacky reminds us that some things can only be created by time and by hand. That beauty made slowly lasts forever.
Jacky is also a cabinetmaker and ebonist. He selects fine woods and carves them with care and detail, turning them into original pieces, waiting for someone to add a story of their own.
In his workshop in Lisbon, the scent of wood blends with the passing hours. This is not just a workspace. It is the place where ancestral marquetry meets those who preserve its history, and those who wish to learn its art. It is also the space where Jacky's students discover that rigour and unhurried patience are a craftsman's greatest virtues.
