In the gardens of houses and along the roadsides of the Azores, hydrangeas grow in abundance, sometimes to excess. Like emotions that overflow, without asking permission. But there is a softness in them that disarms us.

For many, they symbolise gratitude, recognition. They ask for partial shade, regular watering. Care. Just as crochet jewellery artisan Alice Aranha gives each of her pieces.

The Purple Hydrangea earrings are made in crochet, with cotton threads dyed by her own hand, from natural ingredients. The tones come from cochineal and indigo. The clasp is silver.

Layer upon layer, they reveal a patient delicacy. As if every thread and every crochet stitch held time. And attention.

Perhaps that is why we recognise ourselves in them. We too are made of layers, of subtle changes, of invisible influences. And, even without controlling everything, we find a way to bloom.

By her hand, the hydrangeas gain another life. Discreet. Persistent. Like that which remains, even when barely spoken.
